History of Seattle
The city is named for Chief Si'ahl of the Duwamish and Suquamish peoples. American settlers of the Denny Party landed at Alki Point in 1851 before moving to the east shore of Elliott Bay. Seattle rebuilt after the Great Seattle Fire of 1889, boomed as the supply port for the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1890s, and hosted the 1962 World's Fair, which left behind the Space Needle and Seattle Center.
