History of Kent

Kent incorporated in 1890. Its name reflects the hop farming that once filled the valley, echoing the hop-growing county of Kent in England. The valley stayed agricultural for decades before warehouses, manufacturing, and suburban housing replaced most of the farms in the second half of the 20th century.
